Goal

This project explores the design of a unique chess set inspired by the proportions and form of metal spinning tops. Each piece retains the recognizable identity of traditional chess figures while adopting the sleek, balanced curves and compact geometry of a spinning top.

Problem

Traditional chess sets are often lightweight and top-heavy, making them easy to knock over during use or while on display. This lack of stability not only disrupts gameplay but can also pose a hazard, especially in busy or shared spaces. This project explores solutions that enhance the balance and weight distribution of each piece, making the set safer and more practical for both play and display.

Sketches

I began ideating with the bevel edges and pointy formations that were the base of my design language. figuring out how the pieces would interlock without the need for any glue or other adhesive
